I am Lisa Kelly, a Registered Psychotherapist (Inactive) and Relational Gestalt Therapist.

Experience and Education

Drawing from my education in relational Gestalt Therapy combined with training in EFT Couples Therapy, Gottman Couple Therapy and training from world-class relationship experts Esther Perel and Terry Real, I provide therapy to individuals and couples. I also draw from concepts introduced by Harville Hendrix (founder of IMAGO couples therapy) and Gary Chapman (author of The 5 Love Languages).

The BBC, The CBC, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Chatelaine and Canadian Living have interviewed me about relationships. 

I am a graduate of the Gestalt Institute of Toronto's Post Graduate Program of Training and Supervision in Gestalt Therapy as well as of the institute's Advanced Gestalt Psychotherapy Leadership Program. The program - unlike a two-year master's degree - involved six years of intensive study, personal development and work with therapy clients.

Lisa M Kelly, Registered Psychotherapist (Inactive)

At the Gestalt Institute, I helped faculty run workshops for the public and experiential groups for students. The personal development component of my training helped me appreciate clients' experiences of therapy. In addition to working in private practice as a registered psychotherapist, I co-facilitated family support groups and client group therapy at Bellwood Health Services – a premier addiction treatment center in Canada. Prior to my therapy training, I completed three years of undergraduate study at the University of British Columbia and graduated with honours from the Ontario College of Art and Design University.

I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) #001484 and of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). Like many certified Gestalt therapists in Toronto, who are also registered psychotherapists, I am committed to ongoing professional development and to honouring standards of ethical practice.

What is Gestalt Therapy?

Gestalt therapy is a world-renowned form of relational psychotherapy aimed at helping you connect meaningfully to yourself and others - the byproduct of which is greater well-being. Most of us have "unfinished emotional business" and ineffective ways of coping which thwart our ability to deal with our emotions, needs and relationships. As a result, we may experience anxiety, low self-esteem, dating and relationship issues, loneliness etc.

A Gestalt therapist will help you become more aware of your feelings, needs and relational style. As you explore your creative adaptations and triggers, which evolved from past experiences, or any internal conflict at the root of any recurrent concerns, a gestalt therapist with be emotionally present and attuned. Through its unique approach, gestalt therapy increasingly equips you to sit with your vulnerability and move beyond your circumstances. Your therapy might expand your self-confidence and lead to a greater sense of depth, meaning and fulfillment in your relationships and other important areas of your life.

My Motivation as a Gestalt Therapist

I believe the world becomes a better place when we have the opportunity to reflect, explore and evolve in the presence of a sincerely interested, attentive listener. I feel very privileged to help clients connect with their true feelings, arrive at meaningful insights, discover and act on possibilities for change, express more of who they really are and connect deeply with others. On a daily basis, I bear witness to phenomenal inner and outer transformation in the lives of my clients.

My Approach

As a Registered Psychotherapist and Certified Gestalt Therapist practicing relational Gestalt therapy in Toronto and online, I hope to listen to you deeply - ensuring I understand your concerns - and if you wish, collaborate with you to explore possibilities. I have been told that I am friendly, have a warm, gentle presence and quickly sense what is at the heart of the matter.

Couples Therapy

While providing Gestalt Couples Therapy, I facilitate heart-to-heart conversations in which concerns, feelings, needs and hopes can be sensitively explored and expressed. While helping partners share their inner worlds with each other, I hope to equip them with the relational intelligence and communication skills needed to improve their interactions and quality of connection. With your commitment to gestalt couple therapy, you will likely feel closer to your partner and increasingly able to handle your challenges on your own. Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, your experiences, emotions, needs and hopes matter. As a Gestalt therapist in Toronto, Ontario and online, I take a sincere interest, aim to help you gain insight and the tools to better navigate dating, relationship issues, a life transition, anxiety, loneliness, a relationship break-up or low self-esteem.
